Rail giant SNCF's chief executive said that the airline industry could suffer devastating financial losses as travellers across Europe switch to the 250 mph trains, reports the Guardian.
In Spain, passengers can now reach formerly remote Seville in two-and-a-half hours from the capital Madrid.
A coach trip between the two cities is said to take around six hours.
One regular commuter, Ana Portet, told the paper: "It's so quick, sometimes you are there before you have even noticed."
Meanwhile, in China, the paper reports that many journey times across the country have been halved by the new bullet trains.
According to SNCF's website, the new technology promises an "unforgettable experience".
The operator now has services in countries including Italy, Switzerland and Germany.
