Britons have been warned today about the dangers of counting on travel insurance offered by credit card companies.
With the holiday season still in full swing, travellers are leaving the country in their droves but many may not realise that they are not fully covered, according to a report on Inthenews.co.uk.
The website explains that policies offered by credit card providers often only relate to accidents happening on a plane or in a hotel - in other words, things that have been bought using the relevant credit card.
One section reads: "It is only when something more drastic happens while traveling that a consumer learns of the very conditional, very limited coverage protection credit cards really offer."
Many of the companies also use travel-related insurance and rewards as a way of sucking people in to signing up to their accounts, and consumers make the assumption that all
cheap travel insurance policies are roughly the same.
But as the report highlights: "Having the backing of a good insurance policy will not only ensure your receive the treatment you may require but there will also be someone else going through the process with you and handling the details you may not be capable of dealing with at that time."
The website adds that this advice is particularly important for young families heading off on their summer break.
