An expert has pointed out that farmstay holiday are especially good for city dwellers who "would not normally experience this environment".
According to responsibletravel.com, there has been a 106 per cent increase in enquiries for the company's UK farmstay accommodation collection - proof that 'agro tourism' is here to stay.
Sian Brenchley, a spokeperson for VisitBritain, thinks that farmstay holiday providers have benefited from the fact that Brits are more likely to take short breaks nowadays rather than the traditional two-week holidays of yesteryear.
This has increased their appetite for trying novel holiday experiences.
Ms Brenchley said: "The attraction of farmstay breaks is that they are an excellent way of experiencing Britain in a new way, getting back to nature and really being able to be fully involved in the holiday experience.
"In the current economic climate we are hearing that Brits are taking another look at holidaying at home and are being pleasantly surprised by the range and types of holidays on offer - farmstays certainly fit in with this."
