Britons urged to check that luggage is covered by travel insurance

British holidaymakers have been urged to check their travel insurance policies to ensure they are covered for their luggage and contents.

New research by Legal and General has suggested that the value of luggage and contents for a family of four heading off on holiday could stand at around £3,000.

Furthermore, the study showed that even for one person booking a last minute break, the value of these items may be as much as £1,300.

Elaine Parkes, head of technical services at the firm's general insurance business, said: "It's surprising just how quickly the value of the contents of our luggage adds up. It's easy to forget the actual value of the suitcase or bag itself, and the accumulated value of all its contents may not be fully appreciated, particularly if you like designer accessories.

"Holidaymakers should check that they have appropriate cover in place for both their holiday plans and their personal belongings before travelling."

With recent research showing that 20 per cent of Britons admitted that the credit crunch has forced them to opt for a cheaper holiday, cheap travel insurance should undoubtedly be a crucial part of their expenditure.ADNFCR-1708-ID-18740639-ADNFCR
