Britons urged to take usual precautions when on holiday

British tourists have been advised today (August 6th) by a leading travel guide writer to ensure they approach security and safety on holiday in the same way as when they are at home.

The country was shocked and distressed last week when it emerged that British couple Ben and Catherine Mullany were shot while on holiday in Antigua and both subsequently died.

Adam Vaitilingam, the author of the Rough Guide to Antigua and Barbuda, has explained that while such instances in the Caribbean are thankfully fairly rare, Britons should still take great care to reduce the risk of finding themselves in trouble.

He said: "The danger with people going on holiday to places like Antigua is that they behave in a way that they wouldn't behave at home - so they might go walking on a dark beach at night without taking any precautions, they might be more flashy with the jewellery and money or they might leave items lying around - it's really just a case of taking the same precautions that you would at home."

One such precaution that is crucial to take is getting possessions covered, with even a cheap travel insurance policy worth paying for to ensure peace of mind.ADNFCR-1708-ID-18719664-ADNFCR
