Worldwide travel insurance customers looking for a new life abroad could follow one travel expert's advice and choose France for a balance between escapism and familiarity.
According to overseas financial advice service Shelter Offshore, British people often long for a move across the Channel for a number of reasons.
The firm's director Rhiannon Davies explained: "For some, it's the fact that France is geographically so close to the UK and yet culturally, historically, aesthetically so different."
She added that France and its capital are both ideal for Britons looking for different experiences.
Apartments in fashionable and business parts of Paris are always in demand, she noted, as are run-down farmhouses in rural parts of the country for those wanting to escape the UK's recession and job market depression.
Recent research commissioned by energy comparison site uSwitch named France as Europe's most desirable place of residence, recommending its climate, quality of life and healthcare.
