New research has suggested that the number of Britons taking holidays in the Caribbean is on the rise.
With the lousy weather of the English summer, it would appear that taking a well-earned break is more important than ever.
Jon Pearce, from holiday firm HolidaysDirect.co.uk, explained that people are now planning ahead by saving their money to go "somewhere special".
He said: "We've seen an uptake in bookings for holidays in the Caribbean and Thailand, along with other long-haul destinations.
"We all need cheering up, so a holiday is a luxury that has become a necessity for many."
Mr Pearce's comments appear to be backed up by a recent survey by Abbey, which found that 62 per cent of Britons are willing to dip in to their savings to ensure that they get the perfect summer holiday.
A total of 26 per cent also claimed that taking a trip to a sun-soaked destination is the best way to spend their money.
Of course, anyone intending to splash out a bit more on a long-haul holiday should not cut corners with their
