Visitors planning a stay in Newcastle's award-winning Albatross Backpackers In! could benefit from
backpacker travel insurance.
The Journal reports that the hostel - which has been open in Grainger Street for four years - was declared the best in England by Hostelworld.com customers for the second time.
Run by Chris Picha and his wife Liane Rose, the hostel can take nearly 180 people in 26 separate rooms and has attracted travellers from all over the world, including backpackers, families and even a 92-year-old woman who came to see Hadrian's Wall.
Mr Picha told the paper: "It was uninhabitable when we first arrived and needed a lot of work - it took a year to transform it. There was not one roof tile intact or a floorboard that didn't need changing. We took out 200 skips full of rubbish."
Revamped and now winning awards, the hostel offers a pool table, access to computers and a TV room. All visitors could first buy
online travel insurance.
