Cornwall hits top spot for British holidaymakers

Cornwall is the favourite holiday destination for British families looking to take their summer break on home soil, it has been claimed.

A study carried out by travel review site TripAdvisor revealed that the region's well-renowned sandy beaches and visual delights are pulling in holidaymakers.

The survey also found that destinations such as the Highlands, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales are at the top of the list for people opting for a 'staycation', while Blackpool Pleasure Beach was named as the best value location.

Trip Advisor Europe communications director Luke Fredberg told the Chester Standard: "People who have opted for a 'staycation' have the chance to discover what a huge diversity of holiday destinations are available in this country.

"Ranging from the peace and tranquillity of the Scottish Highlands to the buzz and excitement of a city like London. The weather may not always be kind, but with so much choice it does not really seem to matter."

The study also found that London is seen as the most entertaining destination, with the best nightlife, although many respondents described it as the least friendly place in Britain.

Although many people will be taking 'staycations' this year, it is as important as ever to secure cheap travel insurance to protect against any unwanted circumstances.
