According to Lesley Retallack, head of press at high speed rail firm Eurostar, items left by forgetful travellers include false teeth, zimmer frames and crutches - "it's like suddenly they travel on Eurostar and they're cured".
Customers are increasingly leaving high-value possessions behind, she added, such as laptops and mobile phones.
While these are generally recovered, passengers are less likely to return for "their cheeses, their bread, underwear, coats", noted Ms Retallack.
Asked which items are left behind most often, she listed hats, umbrellas and books as the most common.
"I think it's people who have decided 'OK, I've read it, I've finished it, I don't fancy carrying it around anymore,' and therefore they leave it," commented Ms Retallack.
