The editor of a leading travel guide has claimed that going abroad for a summer break does not necessarily have to more expensive for British families than a UK trip.
With the credit crunch still impacting on household finances, there has been considerable doom and gloom about the prospects of affording that special sunshine break.
But now Elizabeth Young, editor of Travel for Kids - which helps families with children to plan fun adventure trips - has moved to dismiss those fears.
She said: "It's easy and cheap to go abroad. With inexpensive airlines, families can plan a weekend in Barcelona, for example, more easily than having to drive to the beach in the UK."
Ms Young's comments are underlined by a recent survey by Travelodge, which revealed that 57 per cent of British children between the ages of five and 12 have visited Spain.
With such affordable breaks available and with the kids coming along for the ride, it makes it even more crucial to ensure that an annual multi-trip or single trip
cheap travel insurance policy is in place.
