Jonathan Cudworth, director of product management at travel website Expedia.co.uk, said the firm had seen a steady rise in demand for 'gastro holidays'.
People are said to be getting more out of their holidays by booking experiences such as wine tours or cookery courses.
According to Mr Cudworth, UK holidaymakers have changed their attitude towards foreign food: "It's great to see that Brits are becoming more adventurous when it comes to dining abroad - even if sometimes they're not entirely sure what it is they're eating."
Recently released research from holiday reviews site TripAdvisor found 46 per cent Britons wanted to try most foods when on holiday.
The survey polled 693 travellers and revealed just two per cent stick to familiar dishes when abroad while 86 per cent avoid fast food chains.
