Britons will refuse to be budged on their holiday plans despite the increasing cost of living in the UK, according to a leading travel writer.
There are concerns about international travel with air fares set to soar by hundreds of pounds in the coming months as airlines slash nearly 60 million plane seats.
But Tom Hall, travel editor of the Lonely Planet, has explained that the value of a summer break surpasses any financial worries for the majority of British holidaymakers.
He said: "I think people are taking holidays that they have already booked. There are signs that the late bookings market is strong; I think people see holidays as a non-negotiable thing."
Mr Hall also added that travelling outside the euro zone could provide the best value this summer, and that cheap deals were still available to the "savvy traveller".
Anyone looking to book a late holiday or backpacking trip should ensure that they take out backpacker travel insurance before they set off on their journey.
