New research released today (August 22nd) has suggested that an increasing number of holiday romances are starting as a fling but ending in the real thing.
A study by price comparison website Moneysupermarket.com has shown that almost one in ten Britons (nine per cent) eventually marry their holiday romance interest.
In addition, and perhaps unsurprisingly, twenty-somethings are the age group most likely to have a short-lived romance while they soak up the sun on their summer break (49 per cent).
Peter Gerrard from the website said: "For all those looking for fun and love in the sun, the chances of a holiday romance look pretty good.
"For those singletons planning to jet off over the bank holiday, it's worth noting that Paris and Majorca top the holiday romance hotspots."
Barcelona, Tenerife and Rome complete the top five European destinations where British holidaymakers are most likely to find love.
However, Mr Gerrard also added that it is not worth risking spoiling the holiday of a lifetime by failing to secure
worldwide travel insurance to protect against eventualities such as injury, cancellations and thefts.
