An alarming number of British teenagers are preparing to jet off on their summer holidays without either their parents or adequate travel insurance, it has been revealed.
Research conducted by swiftcover.com suggests that around half a million British teenagers are set to go on their first holiday without their parents this summer.
As a result, the insurance provider has taken the opportunity to advise them of the importance of securing adequate insurance cover for their vacation.
This is especially relevant as Tina Shortle, marketing director of swiftcover.com, has pointed out that younger travellers are often in most danger of finding themselves in a compromising position.
"Your first parent-free holiday can be a great experience," Ms Shortle said.
"But because of their age and new-found freedom, fledgling holidaymakers can be one of the most at risk groups.
"We are encouraging teens to be prepared and stay safe so their holiday can be one to remember for all the right reasons."
In addition, young Britons should also ensure they do not drink too much - 45 per cent admit they over-indulge on their first parent-free holiday - and remember to use sun cream and keep hydrated to reduce the risk of sunburn and heat stroke.
