Conducted by travel association ABTA, the study revealed British holidaymakers are booking shorter breaks to ensure they do not miss the chance to go abroad.
Frances Tuke, spokeswoman for the association, said: "What we found generally is that people are booking slightly shorter holidays and that has been a trend for a 14 night to ten night break."
She noted most people who travelled this year are still planning to take a break in 2010: "90 per cent of people who went on holiday last year went on holiday this year."
"There are still a lot of people taking overseas holidays too," added Ms Tuke.
Her comments follow the release of new research from Visa Europe, which found that 24 per cent of Brits polled were not booking a traditional two week holiday.
Many said they would instead choose to take a handful of shorter breaks throughout the year.
