Online travel insurance customers may be among those couples avoiding the budget-blowing, two-week traditional honeymoon and choosing a break to suit their needs.
According to a weddings expert, brides and grooms now have the option to choose more exotic destinations as they are easier to access.
Darren Noel, commercial director at hitched.co.uk, said: "More and more places are accessible like Mauritius, Seychelles and the Caribbean, so the honeymoon doesn't become a once in a lifetime trip anymore. They do actually something that they really want to do."
He added that due to the high cost of a wedding, many are opting to take a short break just after getting married before saving for a more extended getaway.
He advised brides and grooms-to-be to plan their wedding and honeymoon budgets at the same time so they can judge where to cut costs.
According to research published last week by holiday operator sunshine.co.uk, Bulgaria was a new entry into a top ten list of honeymoon destinations.
Topped by the Seychelles in first place, notable exceptions to the top ten included Venice and Paris, which were beaten by more exotic and unusual choices.
