Younger travellers are now increasingly willing to pay for luxury holidays, according to the editor of a prominent travel magazine.
The months of July and August traditionally see British holidaymakers flocking abroad and backpackers and gap year students fresh from school or university looking to travel the world.
The latter are normally thought to be on small budgets, but Alyson Cook, editor of Luxury Travel Magazine, has explained that the younger generations are now opting for more high-class breaks.
She said: "The younger generation is seeking new experiences. It's the older generation that is looking for more traditional notions of luxury; they want comfort, but they also want access to exclusive events and experiences."
A recent survey of American Express Centurion card holders revealed that 72 per cent were looking for personalised holidays that cater specifically for their needs.
While younger travellers may be tempted to find ways of cutting corners through booking cheaper flights, for example, failing to secure a comprehensive travel insurance plan should definitely not be an option.
