British travellers, who could buy
cheap travel insurance, are heading to the Greek islands to discover the country's hidden treasures, says a holiday expert.
According to the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO), holidaymakers are increasingly looking for new destinations.
Sofia Panayiotaki, director of the GNTO's UK and Ireland office, said many Britons had booked trips to Skopelos last year, the island where the blockbuster film Mamma Mia! was set.
She added that the reason Greece is so popular among UK holidaymakers is that it offers everything from rural hideaways to sophisticated city breaks.
"You can find exactly what you want: beautiful landscape, beautiful hotels, beautiful scenery, very hospitable people and at the same time, very good prices," she explained.
A recent report by Thomson Reuters revealed the scale of the Greek tourism industry, finding that it employs around one in five people and accounts for a fifth of the country's 250 billion euro (£215 billion) economy.
