Airline passengers have been informed by industry experts that they could be claiming up to £1 million compensation per year between them.
EUclaim has announced that it is to set up a new branch in the UK which will help travellers make claims as a result of cancelled or delayed flights.
The organisation suggests that airline companies are currently capitalising on a loophole in travel insurance regulations which makes passengers believe they are not entitled to compensation.
Under EU law, travellers cannot reclaim money if cancellations and delays are caused by 'extraordinary circumstances'.
However, EUclaim has explained that airlines often use this phrase to cover a host of avoidable technical problems, and put off potential claimants in the process.
Hendrik Noorderhaven, the company's chief executive, said: "It is no wonder that passengers don't bother to make a claim.
"It is virtually impossible for passengers to object to airline statements about technical circumstances."
The group, which is setting up a website to help passengers make claims, has suggested that up to 1,000 Britons per day could be eligible for claims of £430 on average.
