Going off the beaten track could help
online travel insurance policyholders planning a winter break get more for their money and enjoy an authentic experience.
According to the Ski Club of Great Britain, looking beyond the major resorts will help skiers and snowboarders reduce their costs.
Vanessa Fisher, spokesperson for the club, said: "We're finding that resorts which are further down the valley, like Sainte-Foy [in the French Alps] for example, which is down the valley from Val d'Isere, [are popular]."
She noted that these areas still have access to good terrain - the most important factor for the majority of skiers.
Recent research commissioned by the club revealed France still dominates the winter sports market, with 43 per cent of UK holidaymakers crossing the channel for their skiing holidays.
Ms Fisher added that price is likely to be an increasingly important factor for travellers as the euro's strength against the pound has put rates up in many areas.
