Tourists taking a trip in Britain this year have the option of first buying
cheap travel insurance to protect against any mishaps.
According to tourist body VisitBritain, the UK could benefit from the low value of the pound to encourage more people to take trips within the British Isles.
Travelling further afield may be more expensive this year than it has been for some time before, so 2009 could be the ideal opportunity for cost-saving Britons to explore their own backyard.
Elliott Frisby, VisitBritain's press and PR manager, said: "Given the current exchange rates, they will find that many of their favourite overseas destinations in Europe and the USA are more expensive than last year."
Regions such as the Cotswolds and the Lake District traditionally do well at holiday times and are two of the most popular places in Britain. All tourists could buy one-way travel insurance.
A study from VisitBritain found that 20 per cent of people who took an overseas trip last year planned to remain in the UK this year in a bid to reduce their spending.
