Alistair Daly, marketing director at travel agency On the Beach, said several airlines including British Airways had increased numbers of flights to the Caribbean and this competition has driven down prices.
According to Mr Daly, many Britons are now taking advantage of these low-priced tickets and swapping a European break for a more exotic holiday.
While flight costs to long-haul destinations are higher, holidaymakers generally find they need less spending money, he added.
His comments follow news British Airways has announced it is to offer new routes to locations including St Kitts, Grenada and Barbados for summer 2010.
St Kitts and Grenada will both increase from one flight a week to two, while Barbados will move from seven to ten a week.
