Holidays are one of the last luxuries to be jettisoned by Britons, according to new research released today (August 21st).
There have been widespread rumours that the travel industry is suffering as household finances are stretched to the limit as a result of the ongoing credit crunch.
However, the Post Office has refuted those suggestions, claiming that its study of travel money trends for June and July shows that euro sales are well ahead of levels recorded last year.
Helen Warburton, head of travel at the company, said: "The continuing growth in demand for euros shows that most holidaymakers are not deserting summer sun favourites like Spain, Greece and France.
"However, accelerating sales of Turkish lira, Swiss francs and Croatian kuna suggest that many UK tourists are shopping around in Europe."
Ms Warburton's views appear to be backed up by a recent Confederation of British Industry (CBI) survey, which revealed that travel is the only consumer service to have grown in recent months.
However strapped for cash holidaymakers are, it is always worth securing even a
cheap travel insurance policy for that crucial summer break.
